I have great admiration for individuals who are willing to seek out support when faced with concerns or challenges they could use some assistance with. It is a privilege to be with my clients through the process of their self-discovery, and the continued development of insight into their inner lives and how they move through the world. I strive to establish an environment of mutual respect, honesty, and trust where these processes can unfold. In counseling, I personalize a combination of approaches to assist clients as they work to reach the goals they choose to pursue in their wellness journeys.
In truth, who couldn't use a little bit of support and guidance in navigating this complex world that we live in?
And over the last few years, things have become a lot more challenging. The pandemic tested the vast majority of
us on every level possible, causing emotional, physical, and monetary stressors. Fear of the unknown, lack of
social interaction and extended periods of isolation, and limited ability to engage in many of the activities
that we may have previously turned to for self-care, extracted a large toll from us, individually and as
a society. The collective trauma that resulted still persists, despite people trying to move past it.
For some people, this was the longest stretch of time they had ever spent fully alone with themselves, absent
the typical external distractions of daily life. With lives suddenly stripped of our regular structure and
routines, and minus our previously understood experiences of work, recreation, and relationships, many of us
crumbled, not knowing what to do or where to turn.
Our society has taught us from an early age to look outside ourselves, to seek out others to help define,
and find, happiness and success. We are rarely taught that we must learn to meet our own needs and create our own versions of happiness, let alone schooled in how to attain the skills for doing so. Reports of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and a sense of isolation have reached all-time highs. Research has shown that the impacts of loneliness can have damaging physical and emotional effects on people, yet data suggests that we have significantly fewer close relationships now than we once did.
But nobody needs to feel alone. Everybody deserves the opportunity to have an objective, supportive, and safe place where they can process what’s going on in their lives. And that holds true whether you have a clinical concern like depression or
anxiety, or just need a space to reflect and process life as it unfolds. No one should have to feel fearful or embarrassed about asking for support. Reaching out for help is actually a sign of strength. It’s often easier to shove things down, and pretend they don't
exist. But for optimal health and wellness, we need to attend to our emotional, physical, and spiritual lives. Our minds and our bodies are intertwined; what impacts one impacts the other. Caring for all aspects of ourselves allows us to grow, flourish and thrive.
You deserve to have contentment and connection, within yourself and with others. To feel confident, have ambitions and goals that you strive for, and to reach for the things in life that you want. And, importantly, to believe that you deserve those things. Whatever those goals and values are, I am honored to provide support for you as you work through what holds you back from achieving your own sense of optimal wellbeing, and finding or reconnecting with what brings you peace and calm, helps you feel more connected, and truly brings you joy.
